Trump Truce, Israel’s Rules: Netanyahu Insists on Veto for Peace Force

It may be Donald Trump’s truce, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is insisting on Israel’s rules. The Israeli leader declared Sunday that his country will have full veto power over the international peacekeeping force planned for Gaza.
“We have made it clear… Israel will determine which forces are unacceptable to us,” Netanyahu said. This comes as Hamas remains armed, posing a lingering challenge to the truce.
Netanyahu claimed the US supports this position. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, visiting Israel, confirmed the force must be “comfortable” for Israel and that Hamas must be excluded from Gaza’s future governance.
Netanyahu has already signaled this veto would be used against Turkey, reflecting soured relations. Other nations like Egypt and Gulf Arab states are potential contributors.
The ceasefire is fragile. An Israeli strike on the Nuseirat camp, targeting alleged militants, was branded a “clear violation” by Hamas. Separately, Trump has warned Hamas to speed up the return of Israeli hostage remains.
