Iran Claims US Drone Technology Breached Ceasefire with New Strikes

Tensions have escalated in the Middle East after Iran accused the United States of breaching a ceasefire agreement. The accusation followed recent American military strikes targeting missile launch platforms and mine-laying ships in southern Iran. In the wake of these developments, global oil markets reacted sharply, with Brent crude prices surging by more than four percent.

Iran’s foreign ministry denounced the U.S. actions, alleging they were executed in the Hormozgan region despite existing ceasefire terms. Tehran has cautioned that it will retaliate if further military actions are taken against the country. Meanwhile, Iranian media have reported explosions near Bandar Abbas, close to the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The Revolutionary Guards also claimed to have intercepted a U.S. drone and engaged with an American fighter jet near Iranian airspace.

In response, Marco Rubio defended the U.S. strikes, describing them as acts of self-defense aimed at safeguarding American forces from imminent threats. He reiterated that diplomatic negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict continue in Qatar. Rubio also emphasized the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for international shipping, labeling any obstruction to global maritime trade as unacceptable.

On another front, Iranian officials revealed ongoing discussions about a potential agreement that could involve the release of billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets, which they hope will contribute to a broader peace framework. Meanwhile, China has called for both the U.S. and Iran to honor the ceasefire and resolve their disputes through peaceful dialogue.

The regional unrest has also impacted Lebanon, where Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised stronger measures against Hezbollah. Reports suggest that Israeli military operations have been expanded near the Lebanese border. In a separate development within Iran, internet services are reportedly being gradually restored after months of nationwide restrictions, according to local officials.
