During his address to the United Nations General Assembly, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tileuberdi emphasized the urgent need for renewed diplomatic efforts to tackle global conflicts and foster international cooperation. He highlighted a growing trust deficit worldwide and urged countries to resolve disputes through dialogue and negotiations, with particular concern for the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Tileuberdi condemned recent drone attacks on Kazakh oil export infrastructure and commercial vessels in the Black Sea, warning that such actions threaten navigation, international trade, and global energy supplies. He stressed the importance of diplomacy and emphasized Kazakhstan’s commitment to peace and stability in the region.
Regarding the Middle East, Tileuberdi reiterated Kazakhstan’s support for a two-state solution, advocating for a peaceful coexistence between an independent Palestinian state and Israel. He also expressed Kazakhstan’s readiness to contribute to the stabilization of Gaza, including support for civilian reconstruction, food security, and digital government services. Furthermore, Kazakhstan announced its intention to join the Abraham Accords, signaling its commitment to regional peace efforts.
Tileuberdi called for greater international engagement with Afghanistan, linking the country’s stability to the security and development of Central Asia. He emphasized the need for coordinated efforts through the United Nations, combining humanitarian aid with long-term strategies to address issues like poverty and economic dependence.
On nuclear disarmament, Kazakhstan renewed its call for progress and offered to host high-level discussions among nuclear-armed states. Tileuberdi underscored Kazakhstan’s unique position, having closed the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site and relinquished its nuclear arsenal post-independence. He urged nuclear-armed nations to commit to disarmament despite existing disagreements and highlighted the need to restore trust by adhering to international law and commitments.
Tileuberdi also advocated for greater representation of Asia, Africa, Latin America, developing countries, and middle powers in the UN Security Council. During the General Assembly, he engaged in discussions with UN officials and foreign ministers on topics such as UN reform, regional connectivity, energy, investment, and transport, including the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and sustainable development in Central Asia and Afghanistan.
