Xi Jinping, Kazakhstan’s President Boost Tech Collaboration in Shanghai Meeting

During the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to reaffirm the robust strategic partnership between their nations. The discussions underscored the commitment to strengthening bilateral ties through closer cooperation in various sectors.

President Xi urged both countries to align their development strategies further and explore deeper collaboration in trade, cross-border e-commerce, and the digital economy. He highlighted the importance of joint efforts in energy and transport initiatives, while also focusing on advancing partnerships in artificial intelligence, education, healthcare, and science. Furthermore, Xi emphasized the need for cooperative participation in multilateral platforms, particularly the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Expressing Kazakhstan’s stance, President Tokayev acknowledged China as a primary partner in foreign policy and advocated for expanding collaboration across several key areas. He expressed a strong interest in enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, transportation, agriculture, and energy sectors. Additionally, Tokayev emphasized the importance of governance in artificial intelligence as a critical area for joint efforts.

The meeting culminated in the signing of multiple cooperation agreements, marking a significant step forward in the bilateral relationship. These agreements, witnessed by both leaders, encompass a wide range of areas including trade, transport, finance, and media, setting the stage for future collaborative ventures.
